A Grand Escape Raffle- Della Chandler from Houston, TX won the raffle with a choice of one of three fabulous trips! The drawing was held on March 15, 2007 at the shelter. The Children's Shelter board members, staff and volunteers sold 200 tickets totaling $10,000 for the Shelter. Thanks to all of those that helped make this year's raffle a success!

Give a Piece of Your Heart Luncheon and Bazaar- The 5th annual Give a Piece of Your Heart Luncheon and Bazaar raised over $50,000 for The Children's Shelter! The event, held on May 9, 2007 at the San Antonio Country Club honored Ruth McLean Bowers as the 2007 Angel of the Shelter . The bazaar featured seventeen vendors selling items such as purses, jewelry, children's clothing, and home décor accessories.birdies

Birdies for Charity is a fundraising program designed by Golf San Antonio to provide non-profitagenciesan opportunity to raise funds through the Valero Texas Open at La Cantera. Children Shelter supporters participated by making a minimum pledge of one penny for every birdie made during the 2007 Valero Texas Open or by contributing a flat donation of at least $20. This year, The Children's Shelter raised over $20,000 in pledges! Thanks to all who supported The Children's Shelter in the 2007 Birdies for Charity!

Stuff the Bus - This annual school supply donation drive took place on Friday, August 3, 2007. The Children's Shelter collected school supply donations at the Wal-Mart on Summit Parkway. Communities in Schools helped The Children's Shelter collect enough school supplies for children at our emergency shelter to last the entire school year!

"Fore the Children" Golf Tournament - The American Culinary Federation Chapter of South Texas hosted a golf tournament, "Fore the Children," which raised over $5,000 on August 13, 2007. The tournament was held at the San Antonio Country Club and benefited both The Children's Shelter and the ACF of South Texas. The tournament also had many $1,000 sponsors and $250 hole sponsors.

The Children's Shelter Men's Breakfast was held on the morning of Thursday, September 20, 2007 from 7:30-8:30am at the San Antonio Country Club. During the breakfast, Jack Downey, President/CEO updated the attendees on the programs and advancements at the Shelter. Not only did the breakfast raise over $8,000--and still counting as pledges come in--but it also reached out to young executives and educate them on the issues facing our community.

Chips for Children, - took place on October 22, 2007 at Studio 794 at Sunset Station. The tournament began promptly at 7:30pm and lasted until there was a final winner. The cost to participate was a $200 donation per guests, which included hors d'oeuvres, beverages and, of course, poker. With donations at the door, as well as buy-ins, the shelter raised over $21,000 through this fun and exciting event. Thanks to all the individual players, as well as those $3,000 "Ace of Spades" Corporate Sponsorships. All 10 players at the final table received prizes, and the grand prize was a lucky trip for two to Las Vegas!

KONO Kares For Kids- is an annual radiothon done in conjunction with KONO and Security Service Federal Credit Union that was held December 13th and 14th at South Park Mall. In 2007, we raised over $104,000 at the two-day event, making it our most successful year ever. Thanks to all of the great DJ's from KONO, the awesome volunteers, and our staff for helping us surpass all other years' amounts. And we want to make sure and thank San Antonio and surrounding communities for calling in and making pledges to help the abandoned, abused, and neglected children in our community. You really help us make a difference! Change For Children, a coin drive designed to get schools and businesses involved with the radiothon, did very well this year. Thanks to all the schools that helped us raise money for children in our care.
